Let’s learn to create map, filled map and shape map in Power BI.
Power BI helps you to understand your data after loading it but using the data modelling capabilities of this tool, you can create matured and refined analysis.
In one of our previous blogs of the data analysis series, we understood how to build the enriched data model to perform sophisticated analysis.
In chapter 9, you learn about scatter, bubble and dot plots.
In this blog, you will start with a simple map.
Then you will explore how you can create a filled map and a shape map.
What are map, filled map and shape map?
Map: Let’s start with a basic map.
It needs location information with bubble-size data. With this, we can add legend data too.
If you have latitude and longitude information instead of location data, you can create a map with this info.
Filled Map: Here you will not find any bubble size section.
By default, data will be displayed in a filled manner if we select location and tooltip info. Using conditional formatting, we can display data in a different colour.
Shape Map: It displays the shape of that country or location. It doesn’t contain latitude and longitude information.
Practical Examples of Map, Filled Map and Shape Map
In the below video, let’s explore how you can create these map views in Power BI.

You may get the below error if you are going to use any type of map view.
Then please enable maps from “Options and Settings”.
